Remember, this is just a single unit so it’s more about using it solo than with other riders with a headset.

After the installation in my Icon Airframe, the next step was to get it hooked up with my phone. I’m currently using the iPhone 4S so the pairing wasn’t going to be a problem. Turning on the headset, putting it into discovery mode and the SMH5 was ready to make the connection. Opening up the settings of the iPhone with the bluetooth turned on the Sena unit was quickly found. Paired up now it was time to test out a few things.

Inside the box was this little 4 fold quick start guide. I figured there was no way that these few short pages were going to get me up and running so fast, but everything needed is right there. Learning out how to use it is super simple with the large jog dial and big red button. Volume, answering, talking, voice command… all right there within a couple of buttons – dead simple operation!

Music is one of the main reasons I wanted to try this headset. I like to have something inside my helmet at a low volume when I ride. Once I opened up Music on the iPhone it gave me the option of where I wanted to hear the music – speakers or headset. One quick touch and music was playing out the speakers inside my helmet! While the volume of music gets quite loud with the helmet on, I tend to keep it about half volume. Sound quality from the speakers was better than I expected as well.

Phone conversations were quite easy too. While I would never take a call when riding, I did try it out in the neighborhood with a friend, just for kicks. The sound coming from the speakers was a little lower than that of the music and I found that I had to turn it up a little to hear over the sound of the engine and wind. The headset picked up without fail when taking a call and also if I used my phone to make the call.

Over the last few weeks I’ve made calls with the headset while out riding. My buddies and wife were getting kind of sick of me calling as I was testing out the SMH5 unit. Pulling off in a parking lot, making a quick call without having to take my gloves and helmet off is quite nice… Especially when it’s to call the wife and tell her the “traffic is bad” or “I got lost”… or something along those lines without telling her I just wanted to ride a little further :)

To my surprise, Siri worked like a champ using the Sena headset. So, if you have an iPhone 4S with Siri there are no issues at all with using it to communicate with your phone. Push the red button on the side of your helmet and you’re just a voice command away! While listening to some music the need arises to listen to something else, just tell Siri what you want! Need to send a quick text while at the stoplight that you’re on your way home – easily done while not taking your attention away from riding or having to stop and take everything off to do it.

I’ll follow up in another month or two, but right now I’m really happy with the unit, battery life and functionality for such a low cost unit. My only complaint right now would be that the ‘click’ button on the jog dial could be a little tougher to push. Sometimes when I try to change the volume with gloves on I end up pushing the dial in and initiate a click. I’ve gotten used to the need for the softer touch, but making that a little harder to push in would be ideal – but it’s not a deal breaker by any means.

Till next time, I’ll be listening to music in my helmet without the need for the wired up system I had before getting this Sena unit.

Brukus® Motorcycle Parts, LLC– leading the industry in Securiting Products – has now released their newest anti-theft product! This newest invention, the ShieldShackle™ for Heritage Softails, is designed to securely attach and prevent theft of the detachable windshields made for Harley-Davidson’s Softail Motorcycles from 1994 to present.

ShieldShackle™ (also produced for Road Kings) was first suggested by a Brukus customer, and has become a popular item from more than just the security angle. Along with making sure the detachable windshield can’t be stolen, ShieldShackle™ also makes the windshield more stable on the bike. The vibration of the windshield is noticeably lessened when secured by Brukus’ ShieldShackle™.

The custom-designed and *Patent Pending* laser cut brackets are made of 304 Stainless Steel and attach to the detachable windshield frame at the same position where the OEM spring wire clips are located. The installation is a simple assembly of the brackets to each side of the windshield frame.

Here is what customers are saying about the ShieldShackle™ for Heritage Softails:

“With the ShieldShackle™ in place, I have confidence that it will protect from a quick removal of the windshield when the motorcycle is left unattended. I would recommend the ShieldShackle™ to anyone wanting a more securely attached windshield.”

“When I bought my “new to me” Heritage it had a quick release windshield that I would not have purchased myself. It rattled in the wind due to the quick release clips. I don’t know about you but I would rather put my money in my fuel tank than replace a windshield. Brukus had the perfect solution, the ShieldShackle. Now thanks to ShieldShackle my windshield is much more sturdy when I’m traveling on the highways at higher speeds. I have no worries that I will lose it on a highway or to theft. Thanks Brukus!.”

The ShieldShackle™ kit comes complete with all that is needed to install on a Heritage Softail detachable windshield. For more information on this and other innovative securing products from Brukus® Motorcycle Parts, LLC – please visit them online at http://brukus.com.
The Knuckle Shuffle is a vintage motorcycle event that will take place in the normally quiet farming village of Yuba, Wisconsin, located about half way between Madison and La Crosse. This S&S sponsored event is actually a fundraiser cleverly disguised as a party! Metal shop instructor Kevin Baas, aka “the Teach,” is the founder of the chopper building class at Kennedy High School in Lakeville, Minnesota and he – along with many supporters – is trying to keep the class available to his students after funding was cut to an all time low.

The Knuckle Shuffle was conceived and organized by S&S Sales Manager Jeremy Gilbert. Jeremy was a college friend of Kevin’s and when he heard the news that the chopper class budget was barely able to sustain the class, he came up with a plan to help keep it going. The first Knuckle Shuffle in 2011 provided $3300.00 for Kevin’s class at KHS. Doubling that amount is the goal for 2012. And the wheels are in motion to donate money to other high schools with similar programs. Corby Bodenburg, another classmate and Jeremy’s right hand man, has donated countless hours of graphic and web design to help out this event.

The residents of Yuba and the surrounding area stepped up and pitched in to help make the first Knuckle Shuffle a success. S&S Cycle jumped at the chance to sponsor a local event for such a good cause. Says S&S Director of Sales and Marketing Gary Wenzel, “S&S Cycle has always supported technical education and the local community. First and foremost, education is what the Knuckle Shuffle is all about, and of course it’s right in our back yard. Yuba is only about 20 miles from Viola, and the tie in with our Flathead Power® line of vintage engine parts makes this a perfect fit.”

If this year’s Knuckle Shuffle is anything like the first one, you’ll see more original running knuckles, flatties, and Indians® in one place than you’ve ever seen before, or are likely to see again. Not to mention a lot of other rare and unique vintage machines. Rest assured that you don’t have to show up riding a knucklehead. The main thing is to come and have a good time… and of course support the Teach’s chopper class! Good times for a good cause!

To make the party even more fun, an Anders Nygren signature KN-Series engine by Flathead Power (FHP) will be given away in a drawing to be held Saturday evening June 2nd. This is a special limited edition of the FHP KN93 engine, which boasts a 93 cubic inch displacement and the signature of Anders Nygren, the founder of the original Flathead Power Company in Sweden, CNC engraved on the cam cover.

It all starts on Friday, June 1st, when folks start showing up and getting ready for the main event. On Saturday, June 2nd, four rides from four different locations in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin will converge in Yuba for live music, food, good times, and an engine giveaway drawing. Sunday, those still standing can take a tour of the S&S manufacturing facility in nearby Viola, Wisconsin.

By adding a high-flow air cleaner enthusiasts will experience as much as 10% gain in torque and horsepower across the entire RPM range.

The Bob Cat exhaust system improves the performance and economy of the OEM system through tighter mapping of the engine characteristics. By adding a high-flow air filter the performance and economy is taken up another notch. By increasing the efficiency of the stock engine riders experience greater fuel economy, throttle response and performance.

To maximize the combination of increased air coming into and out of the engine a fuel control module is needed to monitor the operation in a fuel injected Harley-Davidson.
